I took this photo in October 2024. This is the Tsuchinshan Atlas commet. This comet was discovered in 2023 at the purple mountain observatory in China. The name means Purple mountain in Mandarin. This particular comet was a once in a lifetime experience. It has an orbit of 80,000 years. My son and I saw it from our porch in Kalispell Mt. It was visible just before dark. This event followed the massive solar storm a few weeks ago. The norther lights were visible everywhere even within city limits. Typically this does not happen. I have a passion for astronomy and these two events were the highlight of my year and life.
